  Due to the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Hospice clinical managers are faced not only with ensuring high quality patient care delivery but ensuring compliance of the CoPs incorporating the CMS 1135 waivers during this public health emergency. Hospice201 is an interactive training session designed to give hospice managers the tools necessary to oversee the day to day operations of the interdisciplinary team in the midst of COVD-19 Pandemic.  Seasoned clinicians will share best practice guidelines for navigating the CMS 1135 waivers, in addition to maintaining compliance with state and federal guidelines. Topics covered will include, but not be limited to  staffing considerations, referrals and admissions, documentation of eligibility, telephone and telehealth visits, interdisciplinary care coordination, innovative patient  and bereavement care delivery, chart audits, discharge planning, survey preparation and emergency disaster plan updates.  All participants will receive a digital tool kit with proven tools to assist the clinical manager in the day to oversight of the hospice interdisciplinary team.

About the Speakers:
Marisette Hasan, RN, BSN, President/CEO, The Carolinas Center
, began her role with TCC in 2014, following a career in healthcare and hospice that began as an oncology nurse in 1981. She soon discovered a love for caring for her patients in a holistic manner throughout the continuum of their illness. Her experience ranges from hospital care to hospice and palliative care. Her hospice experience began in 1985 and she has served in various roles, from nurse to administrator, with hospital programs and independent community programs. In 2015 she became an ELNEC-Core trainer. Marisette works hand in hand with hospice and palliative care providers, helping them maintain relevance in a changing environment and engage in collaborative partnerships to advance hospice and palliative care throughout the Carolinas. 

Sylvia L. Singleton, RN, CHC | Corporate Compliance Office for Caris Healthcare

Sylvia L. Singleton has been a Registered Nurse for over 25 years.  She spent 15 years in Medicare working for a Medicare Contractor. This experience included policy development, medical review and data analytics. There were also activities associated with communicating directly with the Federal Government - CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).

Specific experience includes serving as a HCPCS Coordinator, reviewing medical equipment, and assigning HCPCS codes for durable medical equipment (DME) for the Medicare Program. Performing as a Medical Affairs Coordinator developing Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs) used in 16 states, then moving on to a position as Medical Review Manager. During this time, she initiated contractor medical review of Medicare claims for Part A and B along with Home Health and Hospice.
